HowTo Set-UP Xlink Kai for Psp [Planex GW-US54GXS Wireless LAN USB Adapter ONLY]

Disclaimer: Please note these instructions are yours to follow at your own discretion, and i don't bear any responsibilities for any damages caused to your COMPUTER or PSP or any other relevant devices. This is tested under WinXP only. Please dont follow this if u are a linux or Mac OSX user.

First and foremost, xlink kai is a SOFTWARE that allows PSP users to communicate with each other online ( it is not a hardware ). Planex GW-US54GXS Wireless LAN USB Adapter is the hardware that communicates with your PSP Wifi so that u can play with other PSP users online.

Installation of Planex GW-US54GXS Wireless LAN USB Adapter

Get your Planex GW-US54GXS Wireless LAN USB Adapter from your local distributor.

After u got your adapter, it should come with a installation CD-ROM. DO NOT plug in your usb adapter first. You need to run the installation CD to install the utility for the adapter. Simply put the CD into your CD-ROM drive, and select Microsoft Zero Configuration Tool, and click YES or NEXT or CONTINUE ANYWAY or FINISH.
!! Please note that you need to have administrator rights in order to run the installation!!

Next, u can proceed to plug in your usb adapter and for 3 windows prompt will appear. Click on install the software automatically , continue anyway , and finish . And you are done with the installation part of the usb adapter. It's best if u reboot your computer after this.

After you have rebooted, goto Start -> Control Panel -> System Hardware -> Device Manager -> Network Adapters. You should see PCI-US54GMini2 under Network adapters section if the installation is successful.

Configuration of Planex GW-US54GXS Wireless LAN USB Adapter

U need to plug in your usb adapter before doing anything. Please switch off your laptop wireless or wifi , and unplug any LAN cable to avoid any confusion.
If your native laptop wireless is ON , you will have 2 wireless network connection. This would pose a problem as u would need to identify which wireless network is associated with your Planex GW-USS54GXS Wireless LAn USB Adapter.

Assuming you have removed any LAN cables and disable your laptop native wireless connection, you should see only ONE wireless network connection appearing on the lower-right side of your desktop.

If you see 2 wireless network, this means you need to disable your laptop native wireless manually.

Double-click the wireless connection, and go to Properties ( located at lower-left of your connection window) and click on Configure. You should see a window titled PCI-GW-USS4Mini2 ( subjected to the model of the usb adapter u are using) popping up. You need to go to Advanced and select PSP Xlink Mode. Select Enable under the Value option. Click OK.

Double-click your wireless connection again, and go to Properties, and click on Advanced. Please CHECK the option allow other network users to connect through this computer's internet connection. Click Ok. Reboot your computer.

Installation of Xlink Kai

You can download it from http://www.teamxlink.co.uk/?go=download
Choose your OS version if u are a windows user or a Mac OSX user.
You would need to register an account from http://www.teamxlink.co.uk in order to play and interact with other psp users.

Install Xlink Kai after your download is completed.

Configuration of Xlink Kai

After rebooting, ( and assuming you have installed Xlink Kai ) , run the Start Kai Config Tool. You need to enter your username and password ( please register an Xlink Kai account at http://www.teamxlink.co.uk if you have not done so ).

Please check the options circled shown below

Monster Hunter Freedom 2 Users

If you are playing Monster Hunter Freedom 2, please make sure that ad-hoc is enabled under Network Settings for your PSP, before starting your game. Enter the online guildhall first. ( PSP Wifi must be on )

Plug in your Planex GW-US54GXS Wireless LAN USB Adapter, and search for wireless network available. You should see a network named PSPXXXXXXXXX. Double-click the network to connect to it.

Once it's connected successfully, start Xlink Kai. Go to Diagnostic Mode by clicking on the Magnifying Glass Icon located beside the Question Mark icon located at the top left of the Xlink Kai window. Click on the Folder Icon below the Question Mark Icon. You should see Sony PSP successfully configured at the left of the window.
